iMovie and Final Cut Pro Import Error Upload Problems

Hi,

I've figured out why I have occasional problems with rogue imports on Mac iMovie and Final Cut Pro, it comes about when I am reviewing the content of one of the clips and I impatiently hit import, I know its this I've just impatiently done it again LOL whilst importing a 3D side by side video clip of a microscopic Red Ants Nest on my lawn.

Final Cut Pro Picture showing huge import in progress

Rather than importing just the clip or section of clip I want it starts downloading all the footage in the devices. The automatic response to this is to cancel the import by hitting escape. But the problem is that the system has already downloaded the thumbnails and details of the clips, even if it hasn't yet downloaded the clips.

These then become a block on future importing. The broken files then prevent you from uploading the video and can lead to missing images . #fixed1tMACsupport

I have been contacted by a user who pointed out that the link to this blog in my YouTube video:

How To Make A Apple Mac OS X Yosemite Installation Boot DVD

was no longer working.

I've deleted the original link and replaced it with a fully working link to this link.

If you find any further faults, please report them to me and I'll be happy to fix them ASAP.

Many thanks for your continued support.

fixed1t Apple Mac Support Renamed To Apple Mac Support Fixes

fixed1t Apple Mac Support Renamed To Apple Mac Support Fixes

Hi, as you know I've been publishing 'Working' Mac Support Fixes and associated 'How I Do It' Youtube videos for some years, but realised that having fixed1t at the start of the title reduced Blog traffic and views.

Therefore, I've renamed the Blog to:

Apple Mac Support Fixes

Please delete your previous fixed1t Mac Support Bookmark and updated your bookmarks to this page.  I've also taken the opportunity to embed some links in some of my youtube videos, as a banner note in the top right hand corner, to take you to a playlist of fixed1t videos on the related topic, so you won't have to search around for the next videos.  Please try it out by selecting one of my recent Apple Mac Yosemite videos and let me know if this works. by leaving a note on this post, thanks.

I've also decided this blog shouldn't only be about the fixes I've already created, but should be an active tool for others to post items on, so if you find an Apple Mac Support problem that you'd like me to investigate and try and find a fix for, just post a question on this Blog and I'll try and take a look, if I solve it I'll post the solution.

Thanks for your continued support.

How To Make A Mac OS X Yosemite Installation Boot DVD

Yosemite Mac OS X system is free as a 6+ gig download so you only want to do it once and keeping a backup makes sense, here is how to make a Dual Layer Installation Boot DVD.

The terminal commands needed to do this are on:

Terminal Commands To Create A OS X Yosemite DVD iso image

The following commands typed into the Mac Terminal Windows will create a Mac OS X Yosemite installation boot DVD iso image file that can be used to create a standalone Yosemite Installation DVD.  The fixed1t YouTube video:

How To Make A Mac OS X Yosemite Installation Boot DVD

will guide you through this process and subsequent step to make the DVD from the iso image file.   Here are the Terminal Commands for copying and pasting, this first command stretches of two lines, click at the end of it and drag all the way to the start of the first line before copying.

The Commands

hdiutil attach /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_app

hdiutil convert /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.dmg -format UDSP -o /tmp/Yosemite

hdiutil resize -size 8g /tmp/Yosemite.sparseimage

hdiutil attach /tmp/Yosemite.sparseimage -noverify -nobrowse -mountpoint /Volumes/install_build

rm /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/Packages

cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/Packages /Volumes/install_build/System/Installation/

cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.chunklist /Volumes/install_build

cp -rp /Volumes/install_app/BaseSystem.dmg /Volumes/install_build

hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_app

hdiutil detach /Volumes/install_build

hdiutil resize -size `hdiutil resize -limits /tmp/Yosemite.sparseimage | tail -n 1 | awk '{ print $1 }'`b /tmp/Yosemite.sparseimage

hdiutil convert /tmp/Yosemite.sparseimage -format UDTO -o /tmp/Yosemite

rm /tmp/Yosemite.sparseimage

mv /tmp/Yosemite.cdr ~/Desktop/Yosemite.iso

Once this is completed, a Yosemite.iso disc image file should appear on the desktop.

fixing Mac Adobe Creative Suite White Registration Window Lock Up Error

It always happens, just when you think you've got the handle on things and you decide to do that quick 10 minute job, then have an early night, you discover things have broken.  LOL,  Such as it was a couple of nights ago.  And did I do the sensible thing and 'go to bed' nope, in the words of Conan Doyle voiced by Sherlock Holmes, "the game is afoot".

I was about to put a couple of lines on my fixed1t website, I hit the button and rather than Dreamweaver springing into life, a blank white pane appears and all the menus were locked up, the only exit from this was a forced exit.

I searched the adobe site, and used their software to reset the licensing, but to no effect. I even deleted all of the software and re-installed it twice to no effect. I also looked at the package trace and the Activity monitor.  I then installed dreamweaver an older machine, and realised the window form that was opening blank was the online registration form.  So after further deliberation and testing, I have created the following Youtube video showing people how to fix and avoid the problem.

If this fixed your problem and saved you valuable time please consider making a small donation using the Donate button at the top of the right hand column. Even a few dollars really helps and we all know how expensive it is to call an expert in.  But if you don't wish to donate thats fine but it would useful if you could give the fix a thumbs up and pop back to leave a message.

Please check out my other videos and blogs.

Many Thanks

Mac safari not working in 10.6.8 - How To fix Safari in Snow Leopard

Just recently my Mac Safari stopped working, I'm running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and I did nothing to provoke it ;-)

I went online looking for a fix but could find nothing for Snow Leopard and the other instructions appeared to relate to another system.

I've worked it out and put together this short video showing you how I did it.

Here is how to fix the hanging Safari.
